Bellringing

All Saints is home to the Ilkley Bellringers, who are a joint band with St Peter's Church in Addingham.

We welcome visiting ringers, and anyone interested in seeing how bells are rung, or wanting to learn the ancient – and very enjoyable – art of bellringing.

Please see below for details of our practice nights. If you are planning to come along for the first time or want any further information, please contact our Tower Captain (Sue Green) on 07746 950214.

In our belltower hangs a peal of 8 bells (18cwt):

Three are 17th century bells, which were recast in 1845; and

Five more added by the Reverend John Snowdon and his three sons, Jasper, William and Henry, who all shared their father’s great enthusiasm for bellringing.

All 8 bells were recast in 1939 and more information about them can be found in the Dove's Guide.

Jasper Whitfield Snowdon was a nationally renowned bellringer. Upon his death in 1885, a bespoke window was commissioned from a local firm, Powell Brothers of Leeds. This window is behind the baptism font in church and depicts angelic figures praising God on a variety of musical instruments, while a peal of 12 bells ring above and 3 bells ring below. Look out for it next time you visit!

Practice nights

Every Wednesday, 7.30pm to 9pm
1st and 3rd Wednesdays of each month at All Saints Ilkley
2nd and 4th Wednesdays of each month at St Peter's Addingham

Sunday mornings

Both towers ring at 9.30am on Sunday mornings.
All Saints rings until 10.15am, whilst St Peter's finishes at 10am.

Access to the bell towers

All Saints Ilkley: The tower door is at the base of the tower on the South wall. Access is from the North side from the park or Manor Yard. Please note that direct access isn’t possible from Church Street as it is blocked by the Link Building. There are approximately 40 steps up the circular stone staircase to the ringing chamber.

St Peter's Addingham: Access is from inside the church via the main entrance. There is a short wooden staircase up to the ringing chamber.

All Saints Primary School

All Saints Church of England Primary School is our church school situated about 10 minutes walk from the church. We are very proud of our connection with them and see our partnership with the pupils, staff, parents and governors as a vital part of our mission and ministry to the parish and community as we all seek to ‘Learn Hand-in-Hand Together With God.’ Many church families send their children to the school and we are always looking for new and creative ways to strengthen and grow our involvement together. We love to hear that many of the pupils see All Saints Church as ‘their’ church.

Mike or one of our two Adams lead a whole-school collective worship each week seeking to teach the Bible in a fun, interesting and memorable way. They also take part in lessons and regularly lead school services at the church for occasions like Christmas, Easter and Harvest. Mike is one of the two Foundation Governors at the school. There are always opportunities for church family members to support the school in many and varied ways and you are guaranteed a warm welcome, coffee and biscuits, and possibly a Pritt Stick, Duplo brick or reading book as and when appropriate!

Protecting God's creation for future generations is high on our agenda. There is always more that we strive to do, but here are just some of the ways in which we try to play our part and make a difference.

Hard to recycle items

We know how hard it is to keep track of what you can recycle and where. To help, we have compiled a list of where all sorts of hard to recycle items can be recycled - visit www.allsaintsilkley.org/recycling. You can recycle more than you think!

At All Saints, we offer recycling of Marigold branded rubber gloves through Terracycle. Our collection box is at the back of Church. If there is a Terracycle collection that you would be interested in overseeing at All Saints, then please contact the Church Office.

Fairtrade

Buying fairly traded products when you can, if you can helps create more sustainable trade by providing a better deal for the producers and encouraging more environmentally friendly practices.

We usually have a Fairtrade stall after our 10.15am Sunday service on the 4th Sunday of every month and after our 11am mid-week communion service the following Wednesday. There's always plenty of cupboard staples (tea, coffee, pasta, rice, cooking sauces, chocolate etc) as well as a range of gift ideas. Please bring cash / cheques.

You can also order The Real Easter Egg and The Real Advent Calendar from us. These are Fairtrade, palm oil free and supports charitable causes. Each also comes with an Easter or Christmas story-activity booklet.

We are also now a Fairtrade Church! Read more about what this means here.

Eco Tips

Sometimes it can feel daunting when we think about how we, as individuals, can make a difference. Our Environment Committee shares a short, useful Eco Tip every week in our weekly bulletin; they also produce a series of Eco Bulletins which share facts, figures and further tips to help us all play our part in tackling climate change.

If you would like to sign up to our weekly bulletin, please let us know using this form. You can also catch up on all the Eco Tips that have been shared to date here (this will be regularly updated, so please come back to check for new tips).

Eco Updates

We have recently started an Eco Update notice sheet, with the aim of producing 3 or 4 of these per year, plus maybe the occasional extra edition. We hope that these updates will supplement our weekly Eco Tips (see above) and that you'll find them to be a useful resource.

Please find our Eco Updates here.
